Environmental Course Offerings
Fall Semester 1999 and Spring Semester 2000
ID 103 Introduction to Environmental Science (3) Introduces interdisciplinary
nature of problems relating to the human environment, including social, political and
economic aspects. Includes experiences outside lecture such as field trips and
independent projects. The class is offered in the spring semester, TTh at 8-9:15 AM
and TTh at 1:15-2:30 PM. Prerequisite: Chemistry 100 or consent of
instructor.
ID 260 Science of Environmental Pollutants (3) Describes the pollution of the
atmosphere, of surface water and of soil and groundwater. The sources of pollutants, the
transport of pollutants in the environment and the monitoring and remediation of pollution
will be discussed. The class is offered in the spring semester, MWF at 11 AM.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 118
ID 490 Current Environmental Issues (1/2) This course includes outside speakers,
faculty members from disciplines such as biology, chemistry, economics, physics, political
science and sociology, as well as student presentations and discussions of environmental

ID 495 Environmental Studies Internship (3-8) Field experience
for environmental studies majors under the supervision of a professional in an
environmentally related area. Prerequisite: Written application for
internship must be received by the director of the Environmental Studies Program two terms
prior to beginning the internship.
PHIL 416 Bioethics (3) About 30% of the course will focus on environmental
issues, about 60% on biomedical issues and about 10% on standard ethical theory. The class
is offered in the fall semester, Wed. evening from 6-8:45 PM and in the spring semester,
MWF at 12 PM and Wed. evening from 6-8:45 PM. (Prerequisite: helpful to have had PHIL 121)
